Durolane is used to treat osteoarthritis (also referred to as degenerative arthritis) of the knee and hip. This drug is used when other arthritis treatments fail to relieve the symptoms of the aforementioned conditions. Durolane is only available for purchase with a valid physician's prescription.
Durolane is a clear and thick gel containing purified, highly stabilized, and 100% non-animal derived hyaluronic acid or NASHA. The hyaluronic acid (HA) used in the formulation of this drug is created biosynthetically. The generic name of this drug is Hyaluronic Acid, and it is available in 3ml size. This drug is administered through an injection that should only be given by a qualified healthcare professional. Do not, under any circumstance, self-inject this drug.
The main advantage of Durolane is that you need to take only one injection in a single injection cycle, whereas in the case of non-NASHA arthritis drugs, you need to take three injections to complete one injection cycle.
Another advantage of this drug is that it is made of highly purified hyaluronic acid that is created using bacterial fermentation. The hyaluronic acid used in this formulation is similar to the hyaluronic acid found in our joints. As a result, chances of an allergic reaction to Durolane are very low. In fact, till date, not even a single case of hypersensitivity, acute inflammatory or allergic reaction has been reported due to Durolane treatment.
In addition, the positive effects of Durolane last for up to six months. This drug has a longer duration of action than other drug-based, pain-relieving therapies for arthritis.
The naturally-occurring hyaluronic acid that surrounds our joints contains a liquid called synovial fluid. This fluid performs two important functions – it lubricates our joints and also acts as a shock absorber. In knee or hip osteoarthritis sufferers, the synovial fluid is thinner than normal. As a result, it is unable to perform both its functions of a lubricant and shock absorber properly. The non-animal derived hyaluronic acid present in Durolane is similar to the hyaluronic acid present around our joints, and works the same way as its naturally-occurring counterpart- i.e. it lubricates our joints, and also provides cushioning, thus improving the functionality of our joints and relieving joint pain.
You should not use Durolane if you have an infection in the area where the injection is to be administered. This drug should only be administered by a qualified medical professional. You need to avoid strenuous physical activities within 48 hours of receiving a dose of Durolane.
It is unclear if Durolane is safe for pregnant women. If you are pregnant, buy Durolane only after consulting your doctor. The efficacy and safety of this drug in breastfeeding women has not been established. In case you are nursing a child, buy Durolane only if your doctor approves its use.
Durolane is not expected to cause an allergic reaction or severe side effects. The most common and mild and temporary side effect of this drug is mild swelling at the injection site. This symptom typically lasts for a couple of days.
The following ingredients are present in each 3ml syringe of Durolane:
