Abraxane Information
Abraxane is used in the treatment of breast cancer. The generic name of the drug is protein bound paclitaxel and it belongs to a group of medications known as taxanes. Doctors recommend patients to buy Abraxane after other cancer medications have failed. It is used in extreme cases, particularly when cancer returns even after 6 months of chemotherapy. In cases of metastatic breast cancer, the cancer cells spread to other parts of the body, and even chemotherapy is unable to contain it. Abraxane is used in such cases as well.
Description of Abraxane
Abraxane is available in the form of an injectible suspension. It is to be given intravenously by a trained healthcare professional. It can be injected within half an hour and the patient can go home after that. Abraxane is usually given once every 3 weeks.
Advantages of Abraxane
As compared to solvent based medicines, Abraxane has several important advantages:
- It increases the efficiency of tumor response.
- It is infused into the body a lot quicker
- The patient does not require medications to help prevent solvent related hypersensitivity reactions.
How Abraxane works
The active ingredient in Abraxane is paclitaxel. It belongs to a group of drugs known as taxanes. They help prevent the cancerous cells from multiplying and spreading. Abraxane kills both healthy and infected cells. However, it works better on rogue cells that are multiplying rapidly. Since cancer cells grow rapidly, they are the ones most affected by Abraxane.
Abraxane is a new form of paclitaxel that is bound to a human protein called albumin. In earlier versions, solvents were required in order for the medicine to be dissolved and injected. Many users had severe allergic reactions to the solvents. However, with the new protein bound paclitaxel, the solvents are no longer required.
Safety and Precautionary Information
Before you buy Abraxane, you must inform your doctor if you have liver disease, kidney disease, heart disease, or bone marrow suspension. Abraxane can decrease the body’s ability to produce blood cells leading to anemia. This can make you susceptible to a variety of infections. It is important to undergo regular blood tests to keep an eye on your blood count.
Abraxane is not safe to be used by pregnant women as it can harm the unborn child. It is not known if the medicine passes through breast milk. Consult your doctor in case you are breastfeeding your baby before starting the medication.
Abraxane can cause side effects such as hair loss, nausea, anemia, low platelet count, low blood pressure, and infections due to low white blood cell count, water weight gain, and mouth sores. Due to a drop in white blood cells, the body’s defense mechanism is compromised. It is important to exercise caution in such a case. Apart from undergoing blood tests, you must also maintain personal hygiene.
