Alimta Injection Manufacturer:

Eli Lilly

Alimta Injection Information:

Alimta Injection is a well known cancer medication used for treating certain cancers such as lung cancer which is caused due to exposure to asbestos. In addition, this drug, whose generic name is Pemetrexed, is used for treating non small cell lung cancer, especially when the cancer has already been treated with other medications, but has not subsided. You can buy Alimta Injection and use it to help slow down or stop the growth of cancer cells in your body, either independently or in combination with other drugs. This drug is usually available in the form of an intravenous injection.

Description of Alimta Injection:

Alimta Injection is available in single dose vials, where the drug is in the form of a sterile lyophilized powder to be taken intravenously. The net result of the combination of Pemetrexed with Mannitol is a white or light yellow or green yellow lyophilized solid. The drug is an antifolate and antineoplastic agent, which disrupts the process of cell multiplication, especially those that are folate dependent.

Advantages of Alimta Injection:

One of the major advantages of Alimta Injection is that, in many cases, the disease does not recur after continuous use of this drug. Moreover, if you buy Alimta Injection and use it for treating lung cancer, you reduce the rate of progression of the disease considerably. Secondly, clinical tests on this drug suggest that patients are prone to fewer side effects than if they were to use other drugs. Moreover, it has been seen that regular users of this drug show minimal side effects, especially after continued use. A hospital stay is not required when Alimta Injection is being used for chemo treatment.

How Alimta Injection Works:

Alimta Injection is infused slowly into the vein, a process that takes ten minutes and requires clinical facilities and experienced personnel. Such infusions are given once every 21 days to the patient and can be in combination with other cancer drugs, if so prescribed. Corticosteroids, Folic acid and Vitamin B12 are usually prescribed along with this drug to avoid side effects. Alimta Injection basically inhibits and disrupts the folate dependent metabolic processes that are extremely essential for cell multiplication. This ensures that the cancer cells do not multiply in the body.

Safety & Precautionary Information:

Always consult your doctor before using Alimta Injection, especially if you are already on some medication as this drug is known to interact with other drugs.

In order to avoid any form of infections or side effects that may be caused by this drug, it is advisable to take Folic acid and Vitamin B12 regularly. Also, it is important to use Alimta Injection in combination with a corticosteroid to avoid skin infections and problems. However, make sure that you take only those medications that are prescribed and ensure that they are taken in the exact prescribed dosage and form.

Dosage adjustments may be required if you suffer from kidney disease, liver disease, weak immunity, or bone marrow suspension. Always consult your doctor before using this drug if you suffer from any of these diseases.

Also inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or intend to become pregnant while using Alimta Injection as it could harm your baby.
