Aredia is used for treating osteoporosis, a condition in which the bones lose their density and become weak. It can also be used for treating hypercalcemia, a condition in which calcium is increased because of multiple myeloma or certain cancers. The generic name of the drug is Pamidronic Acid and it belongs to the category of bisphosphonates containing nitrogen. Patients suffering from Paget’s disease can also use this drug, as it will help strengthen their bones. Aredia can be used for treating bone metastasis and other bone related disorders such as osteogenesis imperfecta or brittle bones as well.
Description of Aredia:
Aredia is an injectable drug that needs to be administered into the patient’s vein through an IV. The medicine is given to the patient slowly, which may between 2 to 24 hours to complete, depending on the dosage given, medical condition of the patient, and his/her response to the treatment. Sometimes, your doctor may give the shot only once, or may decide to repeat it consecutively over 3 days. You may also receive an Aredia dose once in 3-4 weeks, depending on your medical condition and dosage needed.

How Aredia Works:

Safety & Precautionary Information:
Your doctor will not suggest that you buy Aredia if you have an allergy to pamidronate or any other bisphosphonates such as etidronate, alendronate, ibandronate, and tiludronate. You should also inform your doctor if you have kidney disease, a low platelet count, low level of red blood cells, or if you have a history of thyroid surgery. Under such conditions, your doctor may decide to conduct special tests and make dosage adjustments depending on your individual requirements and preferences. Pregnant women are also not advised to take Aredia as the drug may harm their unborn baby.
Apart from these precautions, you should not take Aredia if you are already using other medications such as drugs for arthritis, ulcerative colitis, medicines for preventing an organ transplant rejection, IV antibiotics, cancer medicines, and antiviral drugs.
