The brand name
AVEENO is well known for a range of skin care products using naturally occurring substances as the major ingredients. The brand came into existence in the year 1945 with the introduction of a soothing bath treatment product. The main ingredient of this product was naturally occurring oat meal in colloidal form. Body moisturizer and anti-itch products were also introduced with the Aveeno brand name. In the year 1999, Johnson and Johnson acquired this brand and introduced oat meal based baby care products under the same brand name.
Description
Aveeno soothing bath treatment is an effective cure for irritated and itchy skin due to eczema, prickly heat, sun burns, chicken pox and rashes. Aveeno has been recommended by dermatologists for more than three decades. Aveeno bath product is made from 100% pure oatmeal which is milled to fine powder. The product is available in powder form or as an oil, cream or lotion, with the addition of necessary ingredients. Oatmeal is an extract from the grain of Avena Sativa, the botanical name for oats. It is widely used in homeopathy for making skin moisturizing preparations.
When dispensed in water, the oat meal powder forms a colloidal solution like milk. After bathing with this solution, the skin becomes smooth and skin irritation reduces to a large extent.

Administration & Treatment

Depending on the skin condition, Aveeno powder can be used for bathing once or twice a day or as directed by the doctor. Vigorous rubbing is to be avoided.
Side Effects
When used in powder form which is 100% oatmeal, the product has no known side effects. When used in oil or cream form, due to other added ingredients, people with sensitive skin may develop allergic conditions. The other ingredients added to the oat meal in these formulations should be checked for known allergic reactions. The physician should be informed about any known allergy when he prescribes an Aveeno based product for treatment.
Precautions
Aveeno colloidal solution may be slippery, and special care should be taken to avoid slipping and falling during bathing. The product is only for external use. The product should be kept away from children's reach.
