Botox Manufacturer:
AllerganBotox Information:
A beautiful face is the index of the mind; however, the passage of time and facial muscle (corrugators and procerus) movements cause the skin to age. Lines may form between the brows which mars the beautiful skin and face. Manufactured by Allergan Pharmaceuticals, Botox is used to temporarily treat moderate to severe frown lines between the brows, and is a renowned cosmetic procedure for people in the age group of 18 to 65.Description of Botox
Botox Cosmetic is the trade name of Botulinum Toxin Type A or Purified Neurotoxin Complex. With casein hydrolysate, glucose, and yeast extract as a medium, the fermented Hall Strain Clostridium Botulinum type A creates the Botox Cosmetic. Purification of this is done by dialysis and a series of acid precipitations to a complex that contains neurotoxin, and other accessory proteins. Next, a solution of Sodium Chloride containing human albumin and a derivative of blood is used to dissolve the complex formed in the previous step. Sterile filtration follows, after which it is filled and acuum-dried.Advantages of Botox
An important feature of Botox is that it is a non-surgical procedure and is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It is a great option for both men and women. Patients need not spend hours and days at the hospital because the total time to complete this treatment is just 10 minutes and no recovery time is needed. Even though it does not need surgery, it is always administered by a physician as the procedure involves injections. The effect is seen within a few days; however, it may take a few weeks or so for some.Administration & Treatment
It is administered in the form of an injection at five sites. The permitted or recommended dosage of Botox is 20 units per 0.5ml, that is, 4 units per 0.1ml. Apart from non-preserved 0.9% normal saline or Sodium Chloride, no other diluents should be used in the process of reconstitution with Botox. It is given before giving the intramuscular injection. Botox, when injected into corrugators and procerus muscles, blocks the acetylcholine release from the nerve endings, which are responsible for muscle contraction. However, administration of Botox should not be done frequently.Safety & Precautionary Information
The relevant neuromuscular and orbital anatomy of the area in which Botox is administered should be examined by the physician before administering it. Administering Botox does not cause cardiovascular or related problems, nor has it been found to cause serious or immediate hypersensitivity reactions. However, improper administration of this cosmetic may cause:* blepharoptosis or drooping of upper eye-lids
* nausea
* localized pain
* inflammation
* tenderness
* swelling
* erythema
* bleeding, and so on.
There may be adverse effects of this cosmetic procedure on people suffering from neuromuscular diseases like ALS and Lambert-Eaton syndrome. Moreover, reactions like anaphylaxis, urticaria, soft-tissue edema, and dyspnea can also result after the Botox injection. When cervical dystonia patients are treated with any of the botulinium toxins, Dsyphagia is commonly seen in them.
