The practicing physician typically suggests a single shot of Depo-Medrol, in case of joint pain caused by an injury and flares of pain caused by osteoarthritis (OA). If pain persists, it must be reported immediately to a physician. These symptoms can flare up again, making the condition worse. In fact, experts say in the case of patients who have high levels of OA, their joints can be injected 3 to 4 times a year. A physician is the only one who can decide if it is necessary to prescribe more injections.Side Effects
There are noticeable side effects of Depo-Medrol and these include pain just after the drug has been injected, minor infection in the joint tissue, tendon tear, joint infection, thinning of the skin where the injection was administered, and joint inflammation. The medication must not be discontinued abruptly without consulting a doctor first. If one dose of medication has been missed, then the patient must skip the missed dose and go back to the regular schedule.
Depo-Medrol should not be used by anyone who has one or more of the following:
* an allergic reaction to any of the ingredients of the tablet
* acute psychoses
* Cushing's syndrome
* peptic ulcer
* tuberculosis
* herpes simplex keratitis
* vaccinia
* varicella
* systemic (in the blood) fungal infections very elevated serum creatinine
