Description
Durolane is a thick and supple gel created from a substance that is found in the body called hyaluronic acid. This substance is found in the various joints in the body and is responsible for the lubrication of the joints and easy movement. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that is found in the body of all living organisms. It belongs to the family of natural polysaccharide that exists in body tissues, with a particularly high concentration in the synovial fluid and the skin. Durolane is made of biosynthetically created hyaluronic acid, which has been stabilized and purified.
Durolane is designed to help people who are suffering from joint pain and other severe problems. The product has been specially designed in the form of injections that is administered into joints which are troubled by osteoarthritis (hip and knee), to offer cushioning and lubrication. Durolane is unlike other products that contain hyaluronic acid, which is normally used to cure osteoarthritis, as it contains (NASHA)- Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid. This is a substance with features that have been greatly improved compared to older hyaluronic acid products and has shown good results with patients who have tried Durolane.
Indications/Usage
Durolane is used extensively for patients who are suffering from both hip and knee osteoarthritis. The dosage of Durolane is quite effective and one gets immediate relief from pain. The most important advantage about the Durolane injection is that the patient needs only a single injection for relief from pain. This is because of the unique properties of NASHA - most of the similar products in the market do not contain NASHA and the patient needs to be injected 3 to 5 times per treatment course. This drug is administered into the liquid of the effected joint (commonly called synovial fluid). The effects of one Durolane injection can last for up to three months. For the doctor and the patient this means that the risk of infections is reduced and the patient is not required to come back frequently. The treatment lasts for approximately six months.
Side Effects
Durolane is highly effective but there are also some side effects that accompany this procedure. Normally, there is only one side effect that affects most of the patients who are taking the Durolane injection - which is typical mild swelling and knee pain. It is usually not long-lived and disappears within 2 or 3 days after treatment. However, Durolane itself has not been known to cause any side effects.
Durolane Directions
Durolane is supplied in a 3 ml glass syringe, which is safely packed in a blister pack. The content of the syringe, a non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid gel, is sterile. All the injections that are injected should be done in the presence of a doctor or a medical practitioner who specializes in this field. When those who are untrained inject the drug in unsuitable areas places this could lead to swelling, pain and infection.
