Hyalgan is used for treating knee pain caused by osteoarthritis. It contains Hyaluronate, which is normally found in the fluid that provides lubrication and cushioning to the knee joint. It is available as an injectable medicine, which is administered directly into the knee. Description of Hyalgan:
This medication is a viscous solution containing a high molecular weight fraction of natural Sodium Hyaluronate in its purified form, which has a pH of 6.8-7.5. Rooster combs are used to extract it. Hyaluronic acid, which is a natural complex sugar, belongs to the glycosaminoglycan family. This long-chain polymer contains repetitive disaccharide units of Na-glucuronate-N-acetylglucosamine.
