Hycamtin is an anti-cancer medicine. The oral version of the drug is used to treat lung cancer. The intravenous form of Hycamtin is used to treat lung cancer, ovarian cancer, and cervical cancer. It is effective against ovarian cancer that has spread to other healthy cells. It treats small cell lung cancer which has relapsed. Hycamtin is used in combination with other anti-cancer drugs that treat cervical cancer when the cancer has relapsed or spread to other parts of the body.
Description of Hycamtin
The generic name of Hycamtin is topotecan and it belongs to a class of medications known as topoisomerase I inhibitors. It comes in both an injectible and capsule form. The capsules are meant for oral consumption once daily for 5 days every 21 days. It can also be given as an intravenous drip once daily for 3 days every 21 days. The drip usually takes about half an hour to administer.
