About Juvederm

The element, Hyaluronic acid that naturally exists in the skin has the ability to sustain tissue hydration; however, it gets absorbed steadily and periodically. The synthetic Juvederm injection is an alternative for natural hyaluronic acid and can be used when the natural substance vanishes progressively with age. The crystal clear, homogeneous, visco-elastic gel like appearance of hyaluronic acid in Juvederm has three important benefits:

With non-animal origins, it is a biosynthetic product. There is no animal extract used in any part of synthesis.
There is no necessity for any preliminary tests before treatment with Juvederm.
The human body has this molecule as one of its constituents.

Indications/Usage

Juvederm is available in different concentrations such as 18, 24, 24HV (also known as Juvederm Ultra), 30 and 30HV (also known as Juvederm Ultra Plus). Each concentration differs in the treatment methods and is used for different problems of the skin. Juvederm 18 is used in treating fine lines and wrinkles for example Peri-oral wrinkles or crow's feet. This is injected into the superficial skin. Juvederm 24 is used effectively for treating forehead wrinkles and moderate furrows, glabellar lines, mild nasal and cheek wrinkles. This is injected into the middle dermis.

Juvederm 30 is injected into the deep skin, where layers are compacted together. It is used for treating deep naso-genian folds, regaining or restoring the original volume of lips etc. Juvederm 24HV is injected into the locality of facial tissue where wrinkles and folds occur and is used in increasing volume for a short period.

Juvederm 30HV is introduced into the middle to deep layer of the skin, and is used to treat moderate to obdurate wrinkles and folds such as nasolabial folds.

Pre-injection recommendations

It is highly recommended that extra care be exercised if the pores that need treatment are found flatulent. A cleansing mask, anti-irritable lotion, AHA-based preparation or vitamin A acid, will soothe the affected portion. It is always safer to consult a physician for advice and for treatment.

Post-injection recommendations

The following is recommended after the introduction of the Juvederm injection. The patient must avoid excessive facial expressions. Also it is always better that the patient is not exposed to gels, extreme heat (UV, Turkish baths, sauna etc.) or sunlight for a long time over the course of a 2 week period after taking the injection.

Side Effects

The patient may experience inflammatory reactions like Oedema, erythema and redness along with sharp pain after the injection is administered. The duration of these side effects is approximately 5-6 days. There are chances of swelling/nodules at the place where this injection is inoculated. If it continues for a longer period, then the patient must immediately see a doctor.

Precautions

It is strongly recommended not to take aspirin or anti-inflammatory drugs at least for a week before the injection.
