Kytril IV is a serotonin-3 receptor antagonist, and its generic name is granisetron hydrochloride. The drug is used to prevent vomiting and nausea that may occur due to chemotherapy or radiation therapy. It does so by preventing the chemical, that is responsible for triggering vomiting and nausea in the body, from activating its receptors. The occurrence of nausea and vomiting may cause problems for a patient in some cases and slow down the recuperation process because of the inability of the patient to digest food properly.

  1. Do not take Kytril IV if you are allergic to granisetron or any other similar medications like dolasetron, palonosetron, and ondansetron.
  2. The doctor must be aware if the patient has a hearth rhythm disorders, liver disease, an electrolyte imbalance, or a history of Long QT syndrome.
  3. Kytril IV may cause minor side effects such as headache, stomach pain, loss of appetite, diarrhea, constipation, dizziness, or insomnia.

Composition

The multi-use vial of Kytril IV contains the following:

  1. 1.12mg granisetron hydrochloride
  2. 9mg sodium chloride
  3. 2mg citric acid
  4. 10mg benzyl alcohol

The single use vial of Kytril IV contains 0.112mg of granisteron hydrochloride, but no benzyl alcohol. The other ingredients are found in the same amount.
