Menopur is used for stimulating the functioning of ovaries in women and testes in men. The generic name of the drug is Menotropins. This drug contains, in equal amounts, luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone. Both these hormones play an important role in development of follicles in women and in development of sperms in men. The drug can prove useful to women who have functional ovaries but have problems in getting pregnant due to hormonal deficiency. Similarly, the drug can prove useful to men who have functional testes but have low sperm count due to hormonal deficiency. Menopur is a prescription drug. Consult your doctor before you buy Menopur.
Description of Menopur:
The drug is actually a Human menopausal gonadotrophin, which is a combination of two naturally occurring hormones in human body; Luteinizing hormone (LH) and Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH). The drug is available in form of injection, and is administered under your skin. You may take the drug under medical supervision or self inject it at home. If you choose the later, ensure that you understand the administration process completely.
Advantages of Menopur:
Shared below are some of the advantages of Menopur:
- It works even when other treatment, such as Clomid fail to help you conceive.
- It is helpful to women who are trying to get pregnant through an IVF method
How Menopur Works:
The drug works differently in men and women. In women, Menopur increases the number of follicles. The drug also stimulates production of oestrogen, which, in turn, helps the development of follicles. The increase in the amount of oestrogen also triggers the production of LH hormone. This, in turn, helps in the maturation of an egg, and its release from the ovary. In men, the drug increases the production of sperms, resulting in increased sperm count.
Safety & Precautionary Information:
You should not use Menopur, if you are allergic to the drug itself or if you are using another drug that contains FSH and LH hormone. The drug may not be the right medication for people with certain medical conditions. Tell your doctor if you have medical conditions such as abnormal uterine, primary ovarian failure, cancer of breast, ovary or uterus, ovarian cysts, or adrenal gland problems. People who have or ever had a cardiovascular disease, blood clots, or lung problems should also tell their doctor about their medical history before starting treatment.
