Menopur is used for stimulating the functioning of ovaries in women and testes in men. The generic name of the drug is Menotropins. This drug contains, in equal amounts, luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone. Both these hormones play an important role in development of follicles in women and in development of sperms in men. The drug can prove useful to women who have functional ovaries but have problems in getting pregnant due to hormonal deficiency. Similarly, the drug can prove useful to men who have functional testes but have low sperm count due to hormonal deficiency. Menopur is a prescription drug. The drug is actually a Human menopausal gonadotrophin, which is a combination of two naturally occurring hormones in human body; Luteinizing hormone (LH) and Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH).
