Abraxane
Alimta Injection
Alimta is an intravenous injection that consists of Pemetrexed Isodium as its active ingredient. This injection is given as part of treatment for two types of cancers. The medication can be administered either separately or as part of chemotherapy. This depends on the stage and type of cancer. Alimta is recommended for the treatment of NLCLC or Nonsquamous Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer in a locally advanced condition or in a position where the cancer has not yet spread to other body parts. It is also recommended for treating or managing an inoperable stage of malignant pleural mesothelioma. It may be prescribed for other conditions as well. A treatment with Alimta does not require a patient to stay on in the hospital.
Aloxi
This is an injection that is effective against nausea and vomiting. These two side effects occur after anesthesia is administered for an operation or after chemotherapy. During the operation, nausea is kept in check by other drugs. After the operation, nausea resurfaces and causes discomfort. In the case of chemotherapy, nausea becomes more acute and frequent with each cycle. This is caused by a few chemicals in the body, and Aloxi blocks these chemicals. By preventing nausea and vomiting, Aloxi allows a person to eat and digest food better, which also leads to better sleep. This medication reduces the suffering borne by a person after a major treatment, and helps the patient cope better with therapy.
Aredia
This medication is used for treating many conditions, including Paget’s disease, hypercalcemia due to malignancy, osteolytic lesions of multiple myeloma, and bone metastases of breast cancer. Paget’s disease is characterized by the deformity or enlargement of bones. Hypercalcemia that is caused by malignancy is characterized by abnormally high levels of calcium in the blood. Aredia helps in increasing radiographic response and curbing acute pain. It also helps lower the destructive effects of multiple myeloma on the bones. Aredia is effective in the management of spinal cord compression, reduction of risk of fractures, and other skeletal events. It slows the spread of the disease to other parts of the body.
Avastin
Avastin is a widely used medication indicated to treat up to five different types of cancer. NSCLC or non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer (before chemotherapy) and breast cancer at an advanced stage (after chemotherapy) are the two main cancers that are treated by this drug. Avastin is part of a combined treatment along with other drugs to treat cancer, depending on the type and stage of cancer in question. Cancer cells require blood vessels to multiply and spread. Avastin targets a protein known as Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor or VEGF protein and reduces the growth of blood vessels. With a restricted blood supply, the cancer cells fail to spread in other parts of the body (metastasis) and eventually die.

Firmagon Vial
Firmagon is a medication used for the treatment of prostate cancer in men. This medication is prescribed after evaluation of the condition, history of cancer therapy, and stage of the cancer. Prostate cancer cells multiply with the help of testosterone, the male hormone. Degarelix is the active ingredient of Firmagon, and it blocks the GnRH receptor, reducing the production of testosterone. This effectively stops the spread of cancer. There are certain anti-cancer medications that initially cause a rise in testosterone levels, which can cause the symptoms of the cancer to worsen. Firmagon can avoid this surge and the increased intensity of symptoms. This medication has also been proved as a safe medication for older patients.

Gemzar is an injection that contains the active ingredient Gemcitabine Hydrochloride. It is a recommended medication for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer, ovarian cancer, pancreatic cancer, and breast cancer. Before prescribing this medication, the stage of the cancer must be considered. It must also be seen if the cancer is beyond operation and if it has recurred after certain platinum therapies, or after anti-cancer medications. Gemzar acts by attacking the cancer cells that are in their S phase, thereby interfering with their DNA synthesis. The side effects of thinning hair and fatigue are less with Gemzar. Hospital inpatient stays are not required for administering this injection.

Hycamtin is a treatment prescribed for ovarian cancer or small cell lung cancer. This medication acts by interfering with the DNA of cancer cells and killing them while they are multiplying. During clinical trials, this medication showed good rates of partial or total response and an increased survival rate. It has been found to be safe for patients over 65 years of age. However, in the case of senior patients, renal function may need to be closely monitored because the function is impaired due to age. This medication is administered intravenously in cycles of 21 days. After the treatment is complete, the patient can recuperate at home.

It is also used for the painkilling treatment of prostate cancer in men. This medication is called a depot (which literally means ‘storehouse’) and is placed in the body through a special injection. Once it is placed, it releases the medication at a constant rate over a period of time. This is a very convenient method of administration because the number of injections required is less, and the medication is supplied constantly through a continuous dosage. Lupron Depot is used for the treatment of prostate cancer without surgically removing the testes.

Taxotere Injection
This injection is administered for the treatment of certain cancers of the breasts, lungs, prostate, head, neck, and stomach. It is a prescribed medication and may be combined with additional anti-cancer drugs after the evaluation of the severity and nature of the cancer. The active ingredient in Taxotere is Docetaxel, which is derived from the needles of European yew trees. This drug should not touch bare skin and must be carefully handled. Texotere functions by attacking the structure of cancer cells and stiffening them, consequently preventing them from multiplying. The medication is highly soluble in water and easily dispensable, which means that an inline filter is not needed to administer this injection.

Vectibix Injection
Vectibix is used for treating metastatic colorectal cancer or MCRC where it provides a high progression-free survival rate. This medication is used only if the cancer has not responded to oxaliplatin, fluoropyrimidine, or irinotecan containing therapies. Panitumumab is the main active ingredient of Vectibix, and it is classified as a human antibody. It works by interfering with the growth of cancer cells and preventing them from spreading to other parts of the body. Pre-medication is not needed for this drug. Therapy is recommended to be conducted once in two weeks, and has fewer side effects that are often related to other infusion therapies.

Zoladex Injection
This medication is prescribed for thinning the lining of the uterus before performing certain procedures to treat abnormal menstrual bleeding. The uterine lining requires estrogen, which is a female hormone, for growing beyond control. In men, the male hormone testosterone causes the prostate cancer cells to multiply and cause cancer. Zoladex contains an active ingredient called Goserelin, which reduces the production of estrogen and helps control the abnormal uterine tissue growth in women. In the case of men, it reduces the production of testosterone, which controls the growth of prostate cancer cells. Zoladex is a less traumatic treatment for prostate cancer without necessitating the removal of the testes. It is also more economical and a long-acting medication as compared to other anti-cancer therapies.
Zometa
Zometa contains zoledronic acid as the main ingredient, which reduces the excessive amount of calcium in the body. The abnormally high levels of calcium can be caused by the bones, as in the case of multiple myeloma. Zometa is administered via an injection by a professional who is specially trained for administering anti-cancer medications, and it may be required once a year to control bone absorption. The drug can also be used for treating Paget’s disease, where the bones enlarge or deform. Before taking the shot, a patient must drink at least 2 glasses of water and take vitamin D as prescribed by the doctor.
