Description
The injectable synthetic material Sculptra is also known by another name "Poly-L-lactic acid". Sculptra is biocompatible and also biodegradable (able to be fragmented and absorbed). Therefore it has varied applications in soft tissue implants, dissolvable stitches and numerous kinds of implants.Advantages
Sculptra is introduced beneath the surface of the dermis where the loss of fat takes place. Sculptra aids in step-by-step improvement in the growth of skin thickness. The first few sessions will indicate the results, which are normally very clear and visible. This is applicable only to enhance the thickness of the skin in the corrected place and improve the appearance of dermis. Sculptra does not rectify the root cause of facial fat loss, which is one commonly found defect. You need not undergo the preliminary dermis test before undergoing the treatment.
Injecting Sculptra will not show any astounding results during the early stages of the therapy. Although the patient may think that the treatment has been successful due to the swelling, this condition will subside after a while. It takes time for the actual effects to be noticed. Depending on the results, the patient will be advised to come back for further Sculptra injections. In some cases of acute facial fat loss, the patient would need at least 4 to 8 treatment sessions.
Treatment
The injection is given in small quantities using a tiny and very thin and fine needle. A local anaesthetic is injected so that there is minimal pain during the injection. This therapy may vary from person to person. As per clinical studies, the final outcome of the therapy could last for a period of two years after the completion of the first course of therapy. To get excellent results, it is advisable to get an extra session with lesser duration in order to get the wanted effect. But, this varies depending on the individual and what is advised.
Side Effects
After the injection, some swelling will occur and to lessen the swelling, cold cubes of ice can be applied to the area injected. Then this portion should be massaged so the product gets into the skin in an uniform manner and in all directions. There may be chances of swelling, redness and pain in the injected place. These side effects could remain for a couple of hours to a couple of days depending on the strength of the dermis. In some of the cases, this side effect may even last up to 20 days. These problems can be treated if severe. The patient should be advised to massage the injected area a few times a day and to apply an ice pack. However, they must not put ice directly on the skin. It is strictly advised not to get to get too much sunlight and UV lamp exposures unless initial swelling and redness has reduced.
