Trelstar Depot is used for treating symptoms of advanced prostate cancer in men. The generic name of the drug is Triptorelin and it belongs to the category of gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists (GnRH agonist). Description of Trelstar Depot:
Triptorelin is an artificial hormone used for regulating different hormonal processes of the body. Trelstar reduces pituitary gland secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). How Trelstar Depot Works:
Triptorelin is a potent gonadotropin section inhibitor. After the first dose, FSH, luteinizing hormone, estradiol and testosterone are circulated transiently, but after 2-4 weeks, a decrease in FSH secretion, ovarian and testicular steroidogenesis section, and luteinizing hormone secretion is observed. That is why the condition worsens initially after the shot and starts improving after 2-4 weeks. Serum testosterone concentration is reduced, and the functions or tissues that depend on these hormones become dormant. However, these effects are usually reversed once a patient stops the treatment. That is why it is said that Trelstar Depot is only used to relieve the symptoms and not cure the condition.
