Zofran Injection Manufacturer:
GlaxoSmithKline UK LtdZofran Injection Information:
Zofran Injection is used for preventing vomiting and nausea after cancer chemotherapy. The generic name of the drug is Ondansetron and it belongs to the category of antiemetics. Your doctor may ask you to buy Zofran Injection either alone or with other medications. It can also be used for preventing and treating vomiting and nausea after a surgical procedure.
Description of Zofran Injection:
Zofran Injection is a colorless, clear liquid available in 2ml and 4ml plastic ampoules. It is given to the patient intravenously either as a single dose or as 3 smaller doses. It may take around 15 minutes to complete. Your doctor will start this drug around 30 minutes before chemotherapy, followed by the 2nd and 3rd dose after 4 and 8 hours. Sometimes, your doctor may also give you a lower dose of Zofran in the oral form, to be continued for 2-3 days after chemotherapy. If it is being used to treat nausea after a surgery, you will be given a single dose of the injection before starting the surgery. The dosage given to a patient depends on his or her medical condition, response to treatment, and weight.
Advantages of Zofran Injection:
Zofran is an antiemetic which relieves nausea or vomiting after chemotherapy or a surgical procedure. It also has minimal side effects, which include weakness, tiredness, headache, constipation, or diarrhea. Most of these are short-lived and improve on their own as your body adjusts to Zofran Injection.
How Zofran Injection Works:
Zofran Injection blocks serotonin in the body, a natural substance which is responsible for causing vomiting and nausea. Ondansetron is a selective serotonin 5-HT3 receptor blocker.
